ABOUT CONSULTATIONS

Music Talks offers highly interactive and rich discussion-based consultation packages specifically designed to assist recording artists, musicians, songwriters, singers, producers and home project studio owners with entrepreneurship and creative development. Conducted by David Knight via telephone and email, consultations will extend into technology-based communications, on location and will utilize multi-media delivery. Technologies include online/mobile texting/instant messaging and video conferencing for those having the computer and mobile phone power and capabilities. Live on-location consulting, sitting in and video taping (optional) your performance or rehearsal at a venue, in a rehearsal studio or during a recording session are all part of our consultation packages. If you are not in the New York City Tri-State area, then you may email or transfer video & audio files for review, follow up and consultation.

Our consulting goal is to provide an engaging, convenient and affordable quality service, with accurate and relevant information based on experience, knowledge, simple advice and instruction that can be applied to your career for positive results. This is how artist development departments did it! They participated in your development and watched your progress and growth. Our job is to look at your current business skills and creative talents and pull the best of it all together and out of you while still maintaining your own unique individuality.

Why Entrepreneurship and Creative Development?

Entrepreneurship and Creative Development are two of the most important disciplines affecting your music career. If you don’t perfect your creative art form to a professional level and gain above average business knowledge how do you expect to succeed?

Professional level entrepreneurship and creative development are the primary puzzle pieces visibly missing as we bear witness to the ongoing collapse of the former music industry model. In the past, recording artists never fully had to deal with business and creative development. The artist business managers and record labels handled the business, while the artist development department had the responsibility of “thinking” about and creating how the artist should perform, look, handle interviews and more. All the artist really had to do – for the most part – was whatever they were told to do! The “A&R” guys acted as overseers on behalf of the record companies, comfortably snuggling themselves between artist and the artist’s manager in the business aspects of the artist’s career. Further, they worked closely with the record label’s artist development department and the artist to ensure that the act sounded, looked, and conducted itself professionally and performed at its peak. This helped minimize the record label’s financial risk once the artist’s career was launched and the music was released. It also provided a healthy return on their invest (ROI) by allowing them to put the act in the “asset” column of their accounting books rather than the “liability” column. Think about it, they employed full time A&R representatives to scout out and work closely with their signed artists. That should tell you how crucial the “music business” aspect of your career (entrepreneurship) and your music (creative development) has always been and continues to be. It is their and your bottom line!

What’s Next?

History has proven that to be successful in the music and recording industries you must focus on entrepreneurship and creative development. They must be embraced and acted upon. You must mirror what the record companies practiced for decades, making business (entrepreneurship) and your product (creative development, you and your music) two mandatory components for your bottom line. It will be the difference between having a successful career, marginal career or no music career at all. Your gain for your hard work is 100% of the profits!
